Welcome to Fernwood

A quiet log cabin, tucked among mature trees

Come escape the hustle and bustle, breathe the mountain air, and experience the magic of Garrett County. Fernwood is a 1,500 sq. ft. log cabin on a private, wooded lot. There are no neighbors in view from the backyard, just open lawn, tall trees, and the wildlife that wanders through.

It works for couples, small families, or a friends' weekend. Two upstairs bedrooms each have a comfy queen bed and crisp linens. Downstairs, the open kitchen and dining area catch the morning sun, and the living room has a gas fireplace, a smart TV, a record player, and a shelf of board games.

Whether you come for ski season, fall color, or a slow summer weekend by the lake, you return each evening to a private retreat.

“Two words: impeccably clean. … This is hands down the cleanest place I've ever stayed in. … The cabin is very private (no neighbors can be seen from the backyard) and the hot tub was great (also very clean!). Ruby was super proactive with communication, and even sent me recommendations for restaurants and a Spotify playlist … to enjoy by the fire. Well worth the price, and just a 10-15 minute drive to the lake and restaurants. We are already planning a return trip!”

“We enjoyed the hot tub, the fire pit, and cooked a few amazing meals. Had deer every morning eating from the apple tree in the backyard. We will definitely be back for ski season!”

How fast is the Wi-Fi?

We have Starlink satellite internet, averaging about 32 Mbps. It handles browsing, email, most video calls and VPN work. Heavy clouds or snow can interrupt streaming, so download movies ahead of time or bring a hotspot as a backup. It's the best service available here while we wait for the county to upgrade.

Is there air conditioning?

Yes. Portable AC units are installed from June through September. The cabin has baseboard heat and gas fireplaces for the colder months.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes. One pet of any size is welcome for a $40 fee. The big backyard has plenty of room to roam, and poop bags are provided.

Where do we get groceries and firewood?

A Dollar General about 5 minutes away sells firewood, groceries and bottled water. Accident has a few local spots, including Nona's Pizza, Fire Fly and The Rolling Pin. McHenry, 10 minutes away, has larger stores and more restaurants.

Is the cabin good for kids?

Children are welcome, up to 2 per stay within the 4-guest maximum. The property has some unfenced heights and is near water, so please keep an eye on little ones.

Can we check in early?

Often, yes. A 1-hour early check-in is $50 when the cleaner's schedule allows. Just ask after you book.

Do you offer cleaning during longer stays?

Yes, for a fee. A mid-stay clean includes fresh bed linens, fresh towels and a hot tub cleaning.

How do we get there in winter?

The cabin is about 10 minutes from I-68 and 2.5 hours from Washington, D.C. We send detailed directions before arrival. Winter roads in Garrett County can be snowy, so plan for winter driving conditions.
